For the second time we used Goldcar. Last time in Italy and this time in Spain. Every time the staff lied repeatedly. First time it did cost us 150 Euro extra due to some odd insurance we seemed to need all of a sudden, a lie. Lost in translation I thought (this was a misunderstanding) but no here we went again. This time we came prepared. One lie after the other was presented by staff at the incheck desk to us (just like the time in Italy). First you get an upgarde (the car was rotten and damaged), three times your credit card did not work (it was each time fine they just did not want it to presure into an insurance), then let us talk to your bank, then bring back the car empty (no bring it back full it is less expensive). So we called the bank and they confirmed that the card was accecible and the amount of 1300 Euro available but Goldcar did not push the button to confirm the transfer. Then the manager (who knows if he really was the manager) who wanted to speak to our bank all of a sudden did not want to speak to our bank anymore. Our dutch bank said they had heard this story many time from Goldcar clients calling them. The bank was happy to talk to Goldcar if they wanted. Anyway we had paid by debit card withourt making an extra insurance. And yes the potential manager confirmed that earlier guy had lied. That said the potential manager had lied too already. So anybody speaking the truth to clients at Goldcar. Then we went down to see the car. It was certainly not an upgrade but a horror. It was sitting down in a dark corner with a big scratch at the side and looked as if an employee was doing some business renting this privat car to us but not Goldcar. We went up and said the car had damage and we want another one. We got another one and had luck to have a nice meployee. This care was a fine one now. Before we returned we called the general line to understand about costing and fueling. They were really defensive because they work for a terrible company. However once they realized I was just asking and not yelling at them their English was perfect and they expalined well. I had both options for fuel and what costs should be recovered if all is fine at the end. So we returned a full car and made sure we came back hours before to get the car signed off as fine (they had said we need an hour potentially for the check-out). The first two people we met could not care to help with the check-out. One went to smoke another waived many keys at me. We found a trustable empoyee who confirmed the car was well. A few hours later we had the email confirmation. A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I am happy to pay more for a car but not have all this shit from Goldcar.We were lucky the second time.
